At Maurten, we are therefore launching a new type of sports drinks and gels . Using hydrogel technology , we have created natural sports drinks and energy gels rich in glucose that our body tolerates.

With hydrogel technology, we are redefining the market for sports drinks and gels. The first drinks born from this technology are Drink Mix 160 and Drink Mix 320 .

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Simply mix the Drink Mix drink preparation with water, and you will get a drink containing high concentrations of carbohydrates.
The drink immediately turns into a carbohydrate-loaded hydrogel in the acidity of the stomach.
The hydrogel allows the drink to be easily transported from the stomach to the intestine where the water, salt and carbohydrates are then absorbed by the body.
THE GEL 100
GEL 100 is a hydrogel, a biopolymer matrix, containing carbohydrates.
This product is based on the same concept as our drinks, which use hydrogel technology to facilitate the transport of carbohydrates from the stomach to the intestine, where they are then absorbed.
With our drinks, the hydrogel is formed in the acidity of the stomach, but GEL 100 is a hydrogel manufactured directly in product form by combining sodium alginate and calcium carbonate under very precise conditions.
WHAT IS A HYDROGEL?
Hydrogels are widely used in the food industry, often as thickeners. A hydrogel is a biopolymer and has an aqueous structure with very fine pores.
A three-dimensional network with the ability to retain water, it somewhat resembles a kitchen sponge and acts in much the same way.
At Maurten, we have found a way to make hydrogels based on natural food ingredients. And we have developed the structure with the most efficient energy source: carbohydrates.
The hydrogels contained in our sports drinks are made from the combination of two natural ingredients:
- - Alginate, an extract of the cell walls of brown algae.
- - Pectin, found in apples, lemons, carrots, tomatoes, etc.
These two dietary fibers have been used for several decades in the food industry. Combined under very precise conditions, alginate and pectin form a pH-sensitive hydrogel.
