The new O2 VAM is the ultimate aero mountain bike. We didn’t invent this category, but we perfected it: nothing this light is this fast, nothing this fast is this light. It’s also extremely stiff, exceptionally compliant and descends with the precision, confidence and speed of a fighter pilot. OF SUCH LIGHTNESS

The O2 VAM range is born for climbing, incredibly light, starting at just 6.4kg out of the box on a size 54 with Shimano Dura-Ace Di2. Few disc bikes can match it and none are as aerodynamic. That’s a crucial stat because it means the pros can line up with a bike that stays very close to the 6.8kg minimum once their pedals, bottle cages, transponders and race numbers are added. One thing we all share with the pros is that when you’re about to tackle thousands of metres of climbing, we want the lightest bike possible. The new O2 VAM uses the highest quality materials, supercomputer-optimised tube shapes for stiffness-to-weight, and a new manufacturing process so advanced we had to build an entirely new factory.

EXCEPTIONAL AERODYNAMISM

Why build an aero mountain bike? First, because climbing is only part of anyone’s journey, and on the rest of the ride, being aerodynamic is just as important. Second, because pros climb so fast that aerodynamics are still a big factor even on typical 8% grades. Of course, everyone wants both light weight and minimal power loss, but since aero frames are heavier, the challenge for a mountain-focused bike is to save as many watts as possible while adding as few grams as possible. Our team succeeded.
How aerodynamic is it? In the wind tunnel, at effective wind angles of 0 to 5 degrees (i.e. calm air, or headwind to moderate crosswind), the new O2 VAM is only 5W ahead of the OSTRO VAM, which is itself the fastest aero bike on the market. Over the entire range of angles tested, it closes the gap by 50% compared to the previous version. For a bike this light, this is exceptional. On the road, this means your mountain bike will be faster than many much heavier aero versions from other brands.

RIGIDITY, MANEUVERABILITY, VALIDATED

The new O2 VAM is as stiff as the mighty OSTRO VAM and offers an inspiring feel when you push the pedals. You’ll want to attack just to feel it. The handling geometry is also shared, which guarantees incredible high-speed stability on descents, confidence in steep cornering angles, and the agility to outrun a housefly. After all, a bike built for the mountains has to be great on the descents too.

  • BLACK INC 28/33 WHEELS

    The new 28/33 wheelset has been designed to complement the new O2 VAM and represents an equally remarkable step forward in terms of lightness and aerodynamics. The 28/33 weighs just 146g in tubeless tyres optimised for 28mm tyres. They feature different depths front and rear of 28 and 33mm, measure 23mm internally and 28mm externally, and use exceptionally light and strong carbon fibre spokes. In addition to a substantial weight saving, they also reduce drag by 10g compared to the previous THIRTY wheelset and significantly improve stiffness, and therefore responsiveness and acceleration.

  • SUBLIME DRIVING COMFORT

    The most visible features of the O2 VAM are in terms of ride comfort as well as weight savings. The external seat tube, ultra-thin top tube and dropped seat stays all work together to promote controlled deflection at the saddle. The latest UCI rules allow for a minimum tube thickness of 10mm, and this is exploited in the top tube before the saddle cluster. This section curves in a controlled manner under the rider’s back force on the saddle when the bike hits a bump. In combination with the external seat tube, which eliminates the mass and overlap of a conventional seat tube, this allows for a small amount of “travel” at the saddle on rough roads.

  • NEXT GENERATION AERODYNAMISM

    The sheer speed of the new O2 VAM is unprecedented in its class. This is made possible by the revolutionary work of our engineers to create entirely new and aggressively truncated wing shapes for key sections of the frame. Careful attention to complex aerodynamic principles - centered on low Reynolds number flow behavior and learned during the development of the OSTRO Gravel - has made the new O2 VAM particularly fast in "low yaw conditions." That is, when there is no wind, a straight headwind, or a slight crosswind. Our team has gained the ability to manipulate the formation of the "laminar separation bubble" and the subsequent reattachment of the airflow, thereby reducing drag.

LIGHTWEIGHT SEAT POST CLAMP

To achieve our ambitious weight and stiffness goals, we invented a new manufacturing method, built a new advanced factory, and used superior materials, including boron in the external seatpost clamp to achieve an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio.

The stack of the new O2 VAM is increased by 10 mm. We studied the positioning data of thousands of our customers and athletes to determine the dimensions that would allow the greatest number of cyclists to achieve their optimal fit. The reach remains unchanged.
