The Varia RearVue 820, which integrates radar and rear light, alerts you to approaching vehicles on your compatible Edge® bike computer, your Garmin smartwatch or via the Varia app on your smartphone.
Thanks to our most efficient and precise radar technology, it detects the size of vehicles and the level of danger with an expanded field of vision.
This technology identifies vehicles following cyclists at the same speed¹ or attempting to overtake you. The rear light is visible up to 2 km away, and its specific flashing pattern alerts other road users to your slowdowns and stops. For a

The Varia RearVue 820 builds upon the technological successes of its lineage, namely:

• A radar technology that detects vehicles approaching from behind the cyclist.
• A rear light that allows the cyclist to be visible from behind at 220°
• A rear light connected to radar that alerts approaching vehicles by changing its brightness (intensification, flashing).
• A communication system that allows cyclists to be alerted in case of danger on their compatible Garmin product and even on competitor products.

QUESTIONS :

How does the brake light work?

• When you brake or stop, the built-in accelerometer will cause the brake light to flash.

Is this legal?

• According to French law, the flashing red rear light is not permitted, and that is why the user has the option to disable (via the Varia app) the brake light function.

Is it possible to activate a custom brake light mode via the custom lighting mode?

• No, that's not possible.

Will there be portability of advanced features to older Edge models?

• At present, we have no information on such an expansion of this feature.

Is there an option to mount the Varia RearVue 820 on bicycle luggage (bike packing style) or on a luggage rack?

• No, currently no accessories are offered for such use.
